iMac 24'' M1 (2021) – known issues, longevity and repair
Last updated:
Quick answer
The iMac 24'' M1 (2021) is the first Apple Silicon iMac. The power supply is an external magnetic adapter — cheap to replace. Known issues are occasional black screen after sleep and the soldered SSD, where data is lost if the entire logic board is swapped (Secure Enclave follows the M chip). We repair at component level, so the M chip and your data are preserved.

Frequently asked questions
How long does an iMac 24'' M1 last?
In practice 7–10 years. The M1 is still fast enough for everyday use in 2026, and with no mechanical hard drive there are few points of failure. The external power adapter can wear after 4–6 years, but it's cheap to replace (DKK 600–800).
Can the SSD or RAM be replaced on an iMac 24'' M1?
No — both are soldered. And because the data on the SSD is encrypted with keys held in the Secure Enclave on the M chip itself, the SSD cannot be moved to a new logic board either (M chip + Secure Enclave + keys travel with the board). If the SSD fails, you have two options: swap the entire logic board (data permanently lost) or component-level repair with us, where we fix the faulty part without replacing the M chip — so the Secure Enclave and your data are preserved.
What does a screen replacement cost on the iMac 24'' M1?
DKK 4,500–6,500 for a full 4.5K Retina screen. The iMac 24'' has a glued display, so the entire unit is replaced. See current pricing at macmo.dk/reparation.
My iMac 24'' M1 won't wake from sleep – what should I do?
Hold the power button for 10 seconds for a hard restart. If the problem keeps recurring, it could be a firmware bug (update macOS), a faulty external power adapter (try another one) or a faulty power IC on the logic board. Get in touch with us for a diagnosis.
