MacBook Pro 14'' (M1 Pro/Max – M4) – known issues and repair
Last updated:
Quick answer
The MacBook Pro 14'' (2021+) introduced a mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR display, notch and MagSafe 3. Few known issues beyond battery degradation and the occasional display fault. Repairs are pricier than the Air because of the mini-LED screen, but possible with us.
About the MacBook Pro 14”
Launched in October 2021 with the M1 Pro/Max — the first true “pro pro” MacBook with mini-LED, notch, MagSafe 3 and the full port selection back. Updated with M2 (2023), M3 (2023), M4 (2024).
Specifications (M4 Pro):
- Chip: M4 Pro (up to 12-core CPU, 16-core GPU)
- RAM: 24/48/96 GB unified
- SSD: 512 GB – 4 TB
- Display: 14.2” Liquid Retina XDR mini-LED, 120 Hz ProMotion
- Ports: 3× Thunderbolt 5, HDMI 2.1, SDXC, MagSafe 3, jack
Known issues
Mini-LED blooming. A design characteristic, not a defect. Visible only in specific scenarios (HDR videos with bright objects on black).
Pink screen. A few cases reported in early 2022. Resolved by macOS updates.
Battery. Larger than the Air (70 Wh), lifespan still 4–5 years before replacement.
MagSafe 3 cable. The woven cables can fray at the connector after 2–3 years. Original replacement around DKK 600.

Should I repair or buy new?
The MacBook Pro 14” is an expensive machine (DKK 15,000–35,000 new). A repair is typically money well spent if the MacBook is otherwise functional. We provide a fixed quote so you can make an informed decision.
